The Neolithic Marathon is a 26 mile route that takes competitors through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Wiltshire, and next year it will take place on Sunday 3rd May 2009.
The linear course is multi-terrain and covers grassland, farm tracks, roads, and tank tracks. Runners start at the historic stones of Avebury and then go through the beautiful Vale of Pewsey, into the Avon Valley and then up Redhorn Hill. From here they cross into the contrasting scenery of Salisbury Plain, an area not usually open to the public. They cross the finish line at world-famous Stonehenge. The Half Marathon starts on Salisbury Plain, just after Redhorn Hill and finishes at Stonehenge.
There are frequent water stations, baggage storage, and light refreshments at Redhorn Hill and Stonehenge. Due to the linear nature of the route there is a free bus shuttle that runs between the start and finish points and the main car parks.
Entry Fee – Marathonn (TBC)
£25 Early Bird Rate (to March 2009)
£30 if register after this date
Enty Fee - Half Marathon (TBC)
£20 Early Bird Rate (to March 2009)

The Neolithic Marathon runs alongside the Sarsen Trail walk. Starting from a different point in Avebury, the walk then picks up the same route as the marathon. Walkers can chose to walk three distances – 11 miles, 15 miles or the full 26 miles. The Sarsen Trail is the main annual fundraising event run by the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and sponsorship raised by walkers ensures the Trust can continue the essential conservation work it undertakes throughout the county of Wiltshire.
