Just in case you didn't know Martin Dodd (a previous organiser) is looking to have one last TLD in June/July 2010 (date tbd). I know many of the club have cut their IM teeth at TLD and it was a great shame it stopped. This is a really good IM to do as your first one, pretty quick course and cheap and very friendly . From Martin:Hi Guys If the Longest Day Triathlon is to make one more final appearance (Full Monty style), we need all the support we can muster. TLD as it is affectionately know is the father of long distance triathlon in the UK and has been held 13 times, well before the commercial success of Ironman came to these shores. As the former race director I would like to see the race return for one final time in 2010. Spread the word and lets see if we get it just one more time. time. martin.dodd@miadvice.co.uk see facebook www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=40760358443also Tritalk www.tritalk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=46557&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=240

I'd recommend TLD to anyone, I first raced this back in 95 or 96 ( my memory is going ! ). Lovely swim in Galliey Reservoir, great bike route and a fantastic run along a shaded, disused railway line. IMUK Sherborne did'nt even come close to it !
I think TLD was where I first met Steve Penman and Rich James ? I also remember Kelly Monteith doing it one year, anyone still in touch with him ? Is he still racing ?

I agree with Rich, this was a first class event organised by Black Country Triathletes and supported by KIT. I did the first one in 1994 as the sole member of KIT competing but supported by about 20 club members and staggered in to the Stadium as one of the 96 finishers. I competed again in '95, '96, '97 and '99 when the number of finishers reached 250. I can recall some of our club competitors over the years; Steve Penman Steve Light Chris Glover Jer Dale Ross Campbell Barry Angell Mike Hodder Ian Kettlewell Andy Bevan Rob Maziarz Karen Maziarz Paul Cann Eric ( Eric was one of a relay team) The hardy support of Vic Newman,Steve Moody,Wayne Osmond,Kes and Carole A all helped the atmosphere. It would be good to have a club effort in 2010 to follow on from Lanza in the same year, whether competing or supporting. Let me know if you want to give it a try.

I'm keen to give this one a whiz again, did it in 2004, 05, and 06. The swim moved for the last two away from Gailey Reservoir to a lake a couple of miles up the road, but to be honest that didn't detract from the event at all. A fantastically run event, and while it may lack the big race feel slightly, it has a very friendly atmosphere that can be missing at the larger races. I've emailed Martin to express my interest in competing, the more the merrier, and would be great if we could get there in numbers!

And I see, from facebook, that Tim's keen to do TLD too. Anyone else?
