GENERAL INFORMATION.
There is a choice of FOUR routes for 2009, 26.5, 21, 16.81 or 12.5 miles. All walks will start from RALPH ALLEN SCHOOL at CLAVERTON DOWN, BATH. (Grid ref. 772628)
All routes follow public footpaths to the south of Bath, along a historical disused canal and across farmland with scenic views. The longest route will visit the villages of Bathford, Avoncliffe, Hinton Charterhouse, Norton St Philip, Wellow and CombeHay before returning to Bath on the Somerset Coal Canal and the village of Midford.
All walks are covered by Ordnance Survey 1:50,000, sheet 172.
The challenge is to complete the 26.5, 21 and 16.81 mile walks within 11 hours, and to complete the 12.5-mile walk in 9 hours.
Runners are very welcome to enter, but please note that this is NOT A RACE and prizes will not be provided other than homemade cakes, a smile and encouragement at every checkpoint.
Certificates will be awarded to all participants who complete their respective walks within the set time.
START.
Ample parking is available at the Ralph Allen School.
Check in will be from 7.30am. Entrants for the long walk to commence by 8.30am, other walks up to 9.30am.
REFRESHMENTS.
You are advised to carry food and drink with you. Refreshments will be provided at all staffed checkpoints, and also at the finish. Please bring a mug.
RULES.
Participation is entirely at the entrant’s own risk.
Entry is open to all persons who are aged 11 years and over on 19 /04/2009.
Entrants aged under 18 years must obtain the written consent of their parent or guardian.
Entries must be on the official entry form or Standard Entry Form
Entry fees are as follows;
• 26.5, 21 and 16.81 routes - Adults £5.20 and £4.20 for persons under 18 years.
Entries on the day – Adults £7.50 and £5.50 for persons under 18 years.
• 12.5-mile route - Adults £4.20 and £3.20 for persons under 18 years.
Entries on the day – Adults £6.00 and £4.50 for persons under 18 years.
Cancellation of an entry prior to 01/04/2009 will have fee refunded less 50p.
Route finding is the responsibility of the entrant, using the route description in conjunction with the respective OS Sheet.
You MUST carry at all times: - Suitable clothing for inclement weather, suitable footwear, Suitable Landranger map, a compass, a small torch and a pen or pencil.
Please observe the Country Code at all times.
Dogs will be welcome, but must be kept on a lead at all times.
The organisers reserve the right to ask any walker who, in their opinion will not complete the challenge within the set time to retire.
Please note that in 2009, route descriptions will be emailed to entrants in March. This will enable you to increase or decrease font size accordingly for your convenience.
Please write your email address ‘clearly’ on the application form. If you do not have an email address please highlight this fact on the application form, and we will post you the description by snailmail.
We would be very grateful however if as many people as possible could provide email addresses as this will increase our proceeds to the charity of our choice.
