After completing my first sportive I'm just recovering from this event and to say it was a beast would be an understatement, hill after hill after hill from 10% to a whopping 33% which was difficult to walk up, brilliant weather though but seriously this would be good training for some of you Ironpeople. I'm sure it would make an IM Bike leg look sissy by comparison, but tell you what it's a sure way to improve and strengthen your biking, well worth a go, there's one in the Forest of Dean in two weeks time and Dartmoor on 28th June, give it a try, they hurt I can assure you.
