From Eric's emails:
Our Social Secretary, Lee has been looking at a social with a bit of a difference ..... Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday 17th October 2010 (218 days 14 hours 18 minutes 23 seconds – at time of writing!).
www.amsterdammarathon.nl/home/index.php?language=UK
He has already persuaded Steve P, Matt R and myself to enter! Anybody else? Matt Langdon did this last year and said it was great.
If you are not up for the marathon you might want to do the half marathon or the 7.5km?
The route......
the route through Amsterdam’s city centre would also fit a sightseeing tour at a slower pace, taking in the Olympic Stadium, built in 1928, the nature reserves on both sides of the river Amstel, the Maritime Museum, the historic canals, Rijksmuseum and the attractive Vondelpark which will feature twice during the marathon.
Just so you know you can fly from Bristol by Easy Jet current cost....£86 – we have yet to sort accomodation.....
I can vouch for the Amsterdam Marathon. Great event. Big city atmosphere without the congestion of London. – Aileen Brown....
It has only been two months since it has been possible to enter for the 35th Amsterdam Marathon. Already athletes from more than 37 countries have entered and once again among them a remarkable number of British athletes. Registrations from Chili, Singapore, Costa Rica and Saudi Arabia are evidence of the popularity of the Amsterdam Marathon in the furthest corners of the world.
Make sure you too are there in Amsterdam and enter online now at www.amsterdammarathon.nl
Attention! Entries will not be accepted after 19 September or if the maximum number of participants have been reached, whichever is the earlier.
In Amsterdam not only can you run a marathon, but you can also choose from a Mizuno half marathon, Menzis 7.5 km and several youth runs. All of which are on the programme on Sunday. In addition we offer you, for three consecutive days, a Marathon Market in Sporthallen-Zuid, a Pasta Party and on Saturday, a 5 km Good Morning Run in the Vondel Park. However many people choose to spend the whole weekend with the family and enjoy the many tourist attractions in Amsterdam. For information about Amsterdam visit www.amsterdamtourist.nl.
