Bristol and District Triathletes (BADtri) today announced the ‘Bristol City Centre Triathlon’, a new event to be held in and around Bristol’s historic docks.
The race has potential to be one of the major open water races in the UK, with a beautiful backdrop, combined with a fast, closed road course for age group athletes.
The race is being run by BADtri, in conjunction with Bristol City Council. The new event is being badged under ‘Tri Bristol’, and will provide an extension to the highly successful ‘Run Bristol’ race offering.
On midday 22 August 2010, a pilot will be run with 300 triathletes, to fully test the course and provide feedback in advance of the first full-scale event in 2011.
BADtri invites entries to the 22 Aug pilot race for triathletes who are BTF members, and have previously completed two open water races. They will be asked to provide valuable feedback on the course and logistics.
The pilot race is cost neutral, with entry fees being reduced to cover costs. For entries, a new website has been launched, featuring BADtri’s new entry system www.tribristol.org
The new entry system also enables entries to BADtri’s other races, The Bristol Triathlon at Tockington and the Bristol Triathlon Junior race.
The pilot race course will feature an open water 750m lap in the Cumberland Basin, a 20km 2 lap fast closed road circuit, then a 5km run along traffic free paths and roads. The race will feature chip timing, and with the closed roads allowing a ‘luxury’ start time of 12noon.
