I finished IronMan UK last Sunday in 13 hours 44 minutes (1:26 / 7:37 / 4:19). After the disappointment of Austria last year finishing was especially sweet. If anyone wants a heads up on the Bolton course for next year, let me know. Cheers, Kevin

Thanks Eric, Lee. Marcus - I am not sure what date IM UK is next year, but I think I overheard someone say that it will be the last Sunday in July. If you go to the IM UK website they are taking pre-registrations for next year's event. This year was not a sell-out, probably because of the poor reputation the race has had in recent years. But it has to be said that the organisation was excellent this year and there were very few complaints as far as I am aware. T1 and T2 are in different locations which involves a bit of logistical planning on the Saturday, but the race itself works very well. Be prepared for a very tought course, though. 6,900 feet of climbing on the bike and an evil run course at the end - the start is 2 miles of hilly cross-country thorugh a wood! One tip - stay at the Park Inn at Leight Sports Village - it is 5 minutes walk from the start/T1 and they were 100% tri-firendly this year. Cheers, Kevin

Hi Marcus, I put my compact chain ring and large cassette onto my racing bike in order to deal with the hills. I don't know too much about bikes (!) but the frustrating thing about the Bolton course is that there are only a couple of stretches where you can really get going. All the rest is either climbing, descents or 'technical' (cornering, etc.). For an experienced cyclist I am sure it isn't a problem and is good fun. But general consensus is that the course is about an hour slower than in the European IronMan events. In short I don't think a TT bike would be suitable. You could have a look on the TriTalk forum under the IM UK threads and get a better idea from people with a bit more knowledge than me. All the best for your training. PM me if you think I can be of further help. Cheers, Kevin
